Okay, okay… houndstooth may be trending this winter, but it’s also a classic (for me). If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I have been wearing everything houndstooth since my trip in November. I am once again styling a classic houndstooth piece from the Lorna Luxe x In The Style collection, aka my favorite influencer clothing collaboration.
According to Wikipedia: Houndstooth, also called dogstooth, is a textile pattern that looks like broken checks or abstract four-pointed shapes. Evidence of the pattern was pinpointed as early as 360 and 100 BC, and in modern pop culture, it is commonly associated with the University of Alabama. From my research, the modern houndstooth as we know it is traditionally a pattern found in woven tweed originating in the Scottish Lowlands. The pattern is most commonly seen in black and white but does exist in other color combinations. I love playing with texture, so it’s no surprise this pattern is one of my favorites.
The dress I’m wearing is a pinafore-style houndstooth pattern dress from last year, but there is currently a Lorna Luxe Black ‘Miss Kate’ Houndstooth V Neck Pinafore Dress available on In The Style. I styled the dress over a white, oversized puff-sleeved shirt also from a previous Lorna Luxe x ITS collection, black tights from Sheertex, my beloved black leather Converse platforms, and a faux leather trench. For a dark academia look, I would also style the houndstooth pinafore dress with a turtleneck underneath and black knee-high boots, or by itself with platform mary-janes and white socks. A hair accessory like a bow or headband adds the perfect touch to any outfit with this houndstooth dress.
I also have the stunning houndstooth coat with the matching skirt and a houndstooth bucket hat that I haven’t had the opportunity to wear yet. How do you feel about houndstooth? Would you add it to your wardrobe?
