Summer Fridays, the beauty brand founded by Marianna Hewitt and Lauren Gores Ireland, recently launched their first product, the Jet Lag Mask! The product has gone from being highlighted all over social media to getting amazing reviews in print magazines, and I couldn’t be more excited for Marianna and Lauren! I was selected as their #myjetlaglife Instagram contest winner and got the opportunity to attend their Los Angeles product launch with my friend, Ashley. In addition to having the time of my life, I got a Jet Lag Mask of my own to try out as soon as I got to LA, so I wanted to share my thoughts on it now that I’ve been using it for a little while now. Disclaimer: All opinions in this review are 100% my own. No reviews or posts were required of me for any part of the #myjetlaglife trip, this is how I genuinely feel about the Jet Lag Mask!
The Jet Lag Mask
This mask was created for the busy woman (or man) who has dull, dry skin from being on the go. There is no water needed as you can let the mask soak in overnight, or leave it on the skin for 5-10 minutes and pat the excess away to prime your skin for makeup. There has been a trend in leave-on masks lately, and I’m absolutely loving it. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve brought sheet masks on the plane and gotten self-conscious about scaring the people in my row by wearing one! The mask is also the perfect size for TSA, so you can bring it with you in your carry on.
Technically speaking, the tube contains 2.5 fl oz, which is a really good amount for the retail price of $48. It’s basically a mask and primer in one! The ingredients are clean as well, which most likely stems from the fact that Lauren was pregnant for a good amount of time while developing the mask and needed to test ingredients that were safe for her and her baby boy. The Jet Lag Mask is paragon free, vegan, sulfate free, cruelty-free, and contains NO synthetic dyes of fragrances. That means no phthalates, surfactants, petrolatums, BHT, BHA, or silicones. The active ingredients are chestnut extract, vitamin C, niacinamide, and green tea. All of that basically means the mask works to protect your skin cells, calm inflammation, and boost hydration.
Did it work?
I’ve been using the Jet Lag Mask as both a primer and a mask, and the difference was immediately noticeable. The areas under my eyes are my problem areas when it comes to dullness/dryness, and after using the mask directly under my eyes, I felt like a new person. My under eye bags are especially worse after really busy weeks of exams and working on collaborations, and it’s extremely embarrassing when people tell me I look tired based on how intense my under eye bags are. Now I don’t have to worry about that because the Jet Lag Mask pretty much filled in my dark circles- it’s that green tea at work! Using the mask overnight, I immediately felt plumper, fresher skin the next morning. Not only does it physically help your skin, it helps your self-confidence too.
Will I be purchasing the Jet Lag Mask once I run out? OF COURSE. I’ll probably even be masking with it during an MCAT break at the testing center this summer! Lauren and Marianna hit the nail right on the head with their first Summer Fridays product. You can purchase the Jet Lag Mask directly on the Summer Fridays website here (yay, free shipping!) or through Sephora (currently sold out). The brand is currently working on expanding their shipping internationally, so hold tight if you currently can’t get it shipped to you.
The Summer Fridays Launch
Let’s move on to the launch event; there was one in New York mostly for press and one in LA targeted toward influencers. Lauren and Marianna were kind enough to also invite 50 Summer Fridays Instagram followers to each event, something that I haven’t seen beauty brands do before, so that was awesome! I got to attend the LA launch event, which was absolutely beautiful.
There was a life-sized Summer Fridays mood board as soon as you walked into the building, perfect for a mini (or mega) photoshoot. I loved it so much that I think I might have to make my own life-sized mood board in my room! The entrance to the event was pretty much an Instagram playground, which is a nod to a lot of the Summer Fridays success; Instagram story and post reviews flooded the internet almost immediately after product launch. There was a flatlay table full of flowers, palm leaves, polaroids, inspirational quotes, and the product itself, which was a genius idea. I honestly could’ve stayed at the flatlay station for the duration of the event making all types of flatlays. lol. For the most part, I got to see and briefly talk to some of my favorite beauty influencers while eating the best mini toasts I’ve ever had and sipping rose. It was honestly a dream come true! And of course, I got to meet Lauren and Marianna, who are both so, so sweet.
Marianna is actually on my 2018 vision board because she’s my biggest inspiration when it comes to beauty and business, and when I put her on there, it was to inspire me to keep working hard and keep dreaming. I NEVER thought I would get the chance to meet her this year! So that in itself was incredible. And Lauren is such a boss mama; being able to balance her career, her family, and her health is so inspiring to me. Not to mention how much they helped my trip turn out to be the best trip possible!
Before leaving, I let them know that the reason why Summer Fridays is so important to not only me but the entire beauty community is because Lauren and Marianna launched a product that we can relate to; we all have very busy lives, work hard for our money, and are tired of buying things from corporate level people who know nothing about us. The ladies of Summer Fridays listen to their consumers and often ask for feedback to help pave the way for their future products. And that’s why they’re here to stay.
