One of my biggest insecurities is drawing too much attention to my thighs. I’m a pear shape, so my thighs are the roundest part of my body, and I am constantly trying to draw the eye elsewhere to balance out my proportions. I have always been a huge fan of dark wash jeans – I own about six pairs of them, one for nearly every day of the week. As I’ve gotten older, I have grown tired of looking like I’m wearing basically the same pair of jeans all week. With the latest denim trends (i.e. light wash boyfriend jeans, super light wash raw hem jeans), I’ve been wanting to branch out. I’ve been slowly adding light wash jeans to my collection, and so far, my favorite pairs are from ASOS. I recently got a pair ofย ASOS Lisbon Skinny Mid Rise Ankle Grazer Jeans in Phillipa Wash with Thigh Rip and Raw Hem (wow, that’s a mouthful!) and they’re the lightest jeans I’ve ever bought, besides white.
I guess it’s a little odd that I’m fine with white jeans but not light wash denim jeans, huh? I think it’s because of the whiskering and fading on the thighs of light wash jeans vs. the uniformity of the white jeans.
I paired the jeans with an embellished chambray shirt from LOFT Outlet and the Belinda Embellished Sandals from Target. (Quick note: these sandals are super comfortable and are affordable dupes for the beautiful J.Crew jeweled sandals – they’re online only, but they’re true to size so don’t hesitate to grab a pair before they sell out!)
Despite what you see in the photos, I had to muster up a lot of courage to wear a totally light-wash denim outfit. I have previously worn a denim on denim outfit on my blog, but both this shirt and these jeans in today’s post are lighter than the previous outfit. (Yes, I am being dramatic over a slight color change. My thighs respond to the tiniest of differences.) I thought about adding a jacket in a neutral shade to break up the monochrome palette I had going on, but I reminded myself that I had a specific look in mind that day and was going to achieve my goal of breaking out the ultra-light wash denim on denim look.
Although I wouldn’t switch my wardrobe completely over to light wash denim, I don’t think the outcome is as awful as I thought it was going to be. I feel like my legs are long enough to not look completely stumpy in light wash jeans. It’s a cute, casual look for a Friday adventure.
Speaking of which…here are more pictures from the adventure, featuring the Stuffed French Toast Grilled Cheese (with bourbon flavored maple syrup) from La Femme Du Fromage and a flat white from Lineage Coffee…aka two of my favorite things!
