I can’t believe it’s taken me almost a year to write a blog post on this dress… ladies and gentlemen, the Selkie Rainbow Puff Dress! Spoiler alert: it was my favorite quarantine purchase in 2020.
The Brand
When I first came across Selkie, the brand immediately caught my eye. All of their pieces are so fun and remind me of the royalcore aesthetic with a fun twist. It didn’t surprise me at all that the founder, Kimberley Gordon, was actually one of the co-founders of Wildfox. I loved Wildfox in its prime and am so glad Kimberley created her own brand! To get a better idea of their story, I highly recommend reading more on the Selkie website. They’re also a size-inclusive brand, running from XXXS to 5X.
The Dress
Although every piece is incredible, the puff dress just might be Selkie’s most iconic silhouette. The Selkie Rainbow Puff Dress (as well as the rest of the line) has a babydoll waist and flares out on all sides. It looks best when all of the layers are steamed, and makes me feel like an absolute princess. Although the dress is short, I didn’t feel like it was too short for my 5’9″ and a half frame. I personally feel more comfortable wearing a strapless bra underneath the dress, but you could also go without.
Sizing/Fit
The Selkie Rainbow Puff Dress fit is based on bust size; I ended up getting the XXL based on the sizing chart and felt it was pretty true to size. The sleeve falls down every now and again but it’s not too bothersome. I feel like the silhouette is flattering on so many different shapes and sizes.
Final Verdict: I’m in love!
I wear my Selkie Rainbow Puff Dress every chance I get… like in Miami (as pictured) for my birthday weekend this year, at Friendsgiving last year, and most recently at Seven Magic Mountains in Las Vegas. I can also think of plenty more occasions to wear the dress and different ways to style it. There’s just something about feeling like a princess that I can’t get enough of! As usual, I’m most looking forward to wearing it in Europe for Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette vibes.
I also got the Ritz Gown which I will be debuting in 2022, and have my eye on some other Selkie signature styles. Fingers crossed one day I’ll be walking in a future NYFW presentation… I have no idea how to do so, but it would be a dream!
