Guess who’s back, back again… fishnets are back, tell a friend. Did they ever really leave, though? Okay lovelies, today I’m reporting on a trend that you might have seen all over Instagram, from Kendall Jenner to the most stylish bloggers. Fishnets under destroyed jeans.
The peek-a-boo factor is what makes this trend so alluring. You all know how much I love destroyed denim, so I’m always ready to take on any variation of them. How did it all begin? If you remember, I went to NYC a couple of weeks ago, and it was COLD. I ran into a packing dilemma when I realized that all of my jeans that fit with enough room for layering were destroyed jeans. Who’s going to wear hole-y jeans in 30 degree weather? Not me.
Being the fashionista that I am (or claim to be), there was no way I was going to leave my mom’s house with tights on under my jeans that everyone would be able to see. Being West Indian, there was no way my mom would let me leave the house without tights on under my jeans in freezing temps. That’s when a lightbulb went off and I decided to wear fishnets under my ripped jeans.
Believe it or not, the fishnets provided a decent amount of warmth. The ones I wore in New York are from Target last year; they’re black with silver lurex, but you can find a similar all-black pair at Target here. There’s also an all lurex pair at DSW.
In Florida, there is no need for boots as of yet, so fishnets can be paired under destroyed jeans with flats or heels. I think it’s really fun to wear them with visually interesting shoes, like my cap-toe flats from Zara (which are on sale now), or maybe some cute contrasting slingbacks. For social events, you can even dress up destroyed jeans with crystallized fishnets.
