As an avid Pinner (is that what they call people on Pinterest?), I get so excited when I find the perfect street style inspiration. I wanted to pile all of the trends I’ve pinned all together, but sometimes less is more. But when can you get away with it? I decided to experiment to find out!
1. Pick a core color. The basis of my outfit is dark blue/navy, with lighter blue accents. Everything somehow flows together, even if the overload of trends throws off your inner minimalist. You can’t really go wrong starting off with a monochromatic look.
2. Know exactly where less is more. In order to let my embroidered bomber jacket have its ~moment~, I wore ankle length velvet booties. I made it look like it was an afterthought, even though I was planning on wearing them from the get-go. Statement piece placement is important – if you have one big piece (like the bomber jacket), save the rest of your statement trends for your feet, hands, etc.
3. Make sure you stay true to your style. My style is feminine and flirty, so although I tried out some new trends, the ruffles are very feminine, as well as the light blue color I chose to accessorize with. If your trend is normally dark and grungy but you want to try a pink frilled sleeve dress, pair it with fishnets and black ankle booties. Trying new trends is awesome, but unless you’re trying to re-invent yourself, stay true to your style.
4. Don’t be afraid to accessorize. I typically like my accessories to match, so I made sure my booties and backpack were more or less than same shade of light blue. One of my biggest fashion rules is that accessories can make or break the outfit, so choose wisely!
All in all, I would stick to no more than three trends at a time, then choose a main statement piece, and a color palette. From there, feel free to add on a couple more statement pieces and some secondary colors. The last step should be accessorizing to bring it all together. Aaaaand that’s how you bring your Pinterest inspiration board to life!
In case anyone was wondering where I had this mini photoshoot, my fellow blogger babe Melrose and I went to New General in Winter Park. It’s a cute little cafe/store that’s open through the afternoon. The brioche toast was amazing, and the iced coffee was good too!
