Faux (and real) leather leggings look amazing on runway models and celebrities, but how do you translate them into everyday wear? I took that challenge upon myself this weekend, since there was a cold front. That’s the only time I would dare to wear faux leather leggings in Florida.
I started pinning faux leather looks to my Fashion Inspiration board when I noticed that the pins that came up were mostly of girls with long, skinny legs. I have the long part down, but the skinny…not so much. So I wanted to show the world that you don’t have to have long, skinny legs to rock faux leather leggings like an ‘It’ girl.
I decided to stick with a very, very basic color palette. I knew I wanted to wear the leggings with the faux shearling coat, so I centered everything else around that. You’ll notice that when I put most of my outfits together, I pick one or two main pieces and coordinate everything else around them.
To balance two pieces that are on opposite sides of the spectrum, I wore a beige sweater (the Wilfred Montpellier Sweater from Aritzia, to be exact) layered over my favorite Wilfred Minou Camisole, also from Aritzia. My original footwear choice was a pair of black booties, but I decided to make the outfit more of a ‘street style’ look with white Converse. Last but not least, I added the black faux leather bag and sunglasses to bring it all together.
The number one thing you want to make sure of when you wear faux leather leggings is that they fit properly. Mine are from LOFT a few years ago, and I had to go up a size to make sure that it fit right in the thighs, but I had to have the waist taken in because it made the crotch part droop. That’s honestly the key to rocking anything in life, though.
The second thing to look for is balance. Know how to balance out your shape. I added a camisole underneath my sweater because the sweater was a little shorter than I would have liked it to be (it was on sale and I couldn’t resist!). If you have shorter legs, I would definitely recommend pairing the leggings with low-top sneakers, or cute flats/heels that show off your ankles, to elongate your legs.
Once you have your fit and balance together, you’re ready to step out in all your faux-leather fabulousness! How do you rock faux leather leggings? Let me know in the comments 🙂
This is so cute!! x
