One of my favorite trends of 2019 is the slip silk dress/skirt. It’s definitely nothing new, and has been on the rise for a couple of years now, but this is the year that I’ll be buying one in every color. I have always loved a good slip dress, and I own a couple of beige/off-white ones. I decided to spring for color this year with a pink slip dress from Zara and the bias cut slip midi skirt from ASOS.
The Slip Silk Skirt

My favorite way to wear the slip midi skirt is to pull it up a little higher on my waist and pair it with a tied up tank top. It’s a solid, fuss-free summer outfit…provided that you don’t spill anything on it.

My other favorite way to style this type of skirt is to wear it lower on the waist with a sweater tucked in. Living in Florida, I’ll probably only get to do that once this whole year, but I’ll post pictures on Instagram when I get the chance.
Sometimes, satin/silk isn’t the most breathable in the summer, but a midi skirt is just enough to allow you to frolic effortlessly through the sunflower fields like I did. (Location: Sledd’s U-Pick Farm)
The Slip Silk Dress

My other silky/satin favorite is this slip dress from Zara. I purchased it when the pink color first came out, because it’s my favorite color and the way it looks on my skintone is a total mood booster. This dress in particular has a slight cowl neck, making the dress perfect to wear alone or with a linen shirt over it like I did (also from Zara).

Curvy girl tip: Go for the slip dresses and skirts with elastic or some type of stretch, otherwise you will definitely have to size up. Some of my favorite retailers that carry this style are ASOS, Topshop, and Zara. I highly recommend getting one in a neutral and one in a bold color for summer!
Yay or nay to the slip silk dress/skirt trend? Will you be rocking it this year? Let me know in the comments below.
