The sweater dress’s laid back cousin, the sweatshirt dress, is probably the closest I’ll get to rocking athleisure. I first noticed the trend when Ariana Grande and Kourtney Kardashian started wearing oversized sweatshirts with thigh high boots. From there, fast fashion brands started making them as dresses, which is definitely more my style. My sweatshirt dress has been sitting in my closet for a couple of months, but I finally got to pull it out yesterday for a day trip to Tampa.
The sweatshirt dress is super laid back, but you can dress it up for dinner with thigh high boots, or down for shopping with a pair of trainers (Adidas Originals are my fave!). My exact dress is the Oversized Sweater Dress in Nude from Misguided, and it is definitely oversized. It can look shapeless if you are petite, so I would recommend sizing down to all of my petite lovelies. I wore the same Target boots that I wore a while back in November (see my Balmain-inspired post), a pair of Quay x Desi ‘High Key’ sunglasses, and a Gucci-esque cross body bag from Zara.
The best part about this silhouette? Being able to EAT with no guilt and no regrets. It’s definitely a good alternative to high-waisted jeans that you immediately regret wearing when you go out to eat. You also don’t have to worry about bum coverage – since it’s an actual dress, it’s long enough not to have any wardrobe malfunctions. And if you want to start your own sweatshirt dress collection, there are great variations with hoods, distressed details, and more out there. Will you be rocking the sweatshirt dress trend? How so? Let’s talk in the comments!
