Since the theme of this month was self-love, I thought I’d shower myself in gifts: the gift of time (using my time more wisely while taking care of myself), the gift of peace (meditating and leaning into my morning routine), and a slightly more materialistic gift hampers brisbane. I have been eyeing the Gucci Women’s rubber slide sandal (affiliate link) since it made its rounds on Instagram last summer, but I couldn’t decide if I was going to get anything out of purchasing a $325 pair of ~rubber~ shoes. By the time I made my decision, after many more months of searching social media to see how people were styling the sandals, the price had increased to $350… but you know what? I deserved to gift myself the Barbie shoes I’ve always wanted. Here’s what you need to know.
The Shoe
This sandal is a nod to the 90’s, which is why I fell in love with them in the first place. It is constructed with rubber and has the Gucci logo embossed on the top, and was made in Italy. The heel measures at 2.4″ with a .8″ (information from the Gucci website). The current retail price as of 2/2021 is $350 USD, and so far I’ve seen it on the Gucci website, Farfetch, and Nordstrom. I ordered mine online from the Gucci website and the shoes came in a shoe box with a green Gucci ribbon; instead of using the paper shopping bags you would get from the Gucci store, a reusable shopper was included.
Sizing/Fit
I made a TikTok video about buying the Gucci rubber slide sandal that unexpectedly blew up. The most frequent question I got was how the sandals fit and if they’re true to size. While I had a really good experience with these shoes, there were some ladies who commented on my video that their feet were too wide for the sandals or they found the shoes to be uncomfortable. The sizing is confusing for those who aren’t familiar with European shoes. I have had enough bad experiences (including a SA at Neiman Marcus laughing at my big feet) to know that my size US 11 feet are a size 42, no matter how many conversion charts/size guides translate a US 11 to be a 41. You may be able to get away with a 41 if you have narrow feet, but I have medium feet that can swell up at times so I ordered a 42 from experience. The sandal itself is long, so the 42 fit my medium width fine but left a little room in between my heel and the end of the shoe, which is definitely better than not having enough room. If your feet are any wider than mine, I would not recommend the shoe.
I’ve worn the rubber slide sandals about three times now (since I haven’t really been going places), and they have been surprisingly comfortable to me for a pair of rubber sandals. In my experience, they are way more comfortable than jelly sandals I’ve bought from Urban Outfitters in the past. I haven’t experienced any blistering or rubbing between my skin and the sandals, and they provide enough support while driving. I did not purchase these sandals with the intention of walking miles in them throughout the day, so my perspective is that they’re comfortable for the occasions I plan on wearing them. If anything changes, I’ll update this post.
How to Style
I styled the Gucci rubber slide sandal in my last post: Valentine’s Day Outfit Inspiration: Think Pink. Pink is my favorite color and this pastel shade is absolutely gorgeous. I can see myself also styling the sandals with pastel-colored blouses and white jeans, and I can’t wait to wear them with my Selkie Rainbow Puff Dress (which I hope to be posting about soon!). The shoes also come in black, beautiful pastel blue and yellow, as well as white, green, and red. If one of the pastel colors is prominent in your wardrobe, I’d recommend getting one of those, but if you’re unsure I’d go with black. It’ll go with everything. I’m a little hesitant to style this at the pool just because I’m nervous that my feet will slide around once the sandals get wet, but you never know. Get ready to see a lot more of these sandals in the future!

I’m not 100% sure but I wouldn’t expect it to since it’s rubber :/
