It’s no secret that I have a sweet tooth. I drink coffee almost daily, and during exam periods, I drink at least two cups a day. All of that coffee has definitely had an effect on my teeth. As a high maintenance twenty-something, of course, I want my teeth to be pearly white! I was really excited when Smile Brilliant reached out to me for a collaboration involving their professional teeth whitening kit.
Step 1: Molding
The first step to getting a brighter smile is making molds of your teeth. Smile Brilliant will send you a kit with instructions and the tools to make molds of your top row and bottom row of teeth. I suggest watching one of their YouTube videos on how to make the correct mold because I had to re-do mine and it delayed my teeth whitening process for a couple weeks! I’m not going to lie, it’s fun playing with the putty. And by playing with it, I mean mixing the two pastes together to make your mold, because adults don’t play with putty. Right?
After your molds are made, let them dry overnight, then send them off in their pre-packaged envelope! You will receive an email when your molds have been received and if there was an issue with either of them.
Step 2: Whitening
I was sent four syringes with my molding kit; two full of whitening gel, and two full of desensitizing gel. The whitening gel is for whitening, and the desensitizing gel is what you put on after each whitening session. You put a thin layer of the gel on the frontmost part of each mold, and you can leave the whitening gel on for up to three hours each session. The de-sensitizing gel is only meant to be on for 15-20 minutes.
I personally only whitened my teeth every other day, because I was experiencing a little tooth sensitivity when I first started the process. I haven’t had any adverse reactions, and my smile is brighter now!
Here is my before and after:

I have used Crest white strips and a Walgreens brand teeth whitening pen in the past, but I haven’t had noticeable results until I started using the Smile Brilliant kit. It’s worth noting that I mostly whitened my teeth for up to an hour before switching to the desensitizing gel as I was experiencing sensitivity issues when I had the trays in my mouth for over an hour. I’ve noticed such a difference when wearing dark or very bright colored lipstick which can make teeth look yellow – my teeth still look white no matter what color I have on my lips. The most noticeable difference is that there is no yellowing around the tops of my teeth anymore. My teeth weren’t horribly yellow before using Smile Brilliant, but there were coffee stains that are now gone. And on a related note, I’ve actually stopped drinking more than one cup of coffee a day, so hopefully, the stains won’t be back! Note: Results may vary depending on how often you use the treatment and for how long. There is a flyer that comes with your kit explaining best practices. I am 100% satisfied with my results- my teeth are not unnaturally white, but there’s a difference that I notice when I look in the mirror or see pictures of myself.
