April Makeup Haul

05/05/2015

It’s been a while, but my finals are finally over! It’s time for me to play catch-up, so I’m just going to get straight to the point. I made some pretty good makeup purchases during the month of April and I’m excited to tell you all about it 🙂

Jaclyn Hill Favorites Palette from Morphe Brushes Okay, so I haven’t exactly been keeping up with Jaclyn Hill’s makeup tutorials, but I do know who she is, and her palette is genius. It’s $27.99 for 28 shades, which basically puts each shadow at a dollar. The shadows are soft and are nice to blend. I think it’s the perfect combination of neutrals with colors that pop, as well as the matte to shimmer ratio. It’s a genius move for Jaclyn because a lot of people who don’t really keep up with her are still going to purchase the palette due to the amazing deal! I was able to get this palette on the second restock, but I have no idea when/if there will be another one. You can, however, get individual shadows, so I recommend going to Morphe Brushes‘ website and making your own favorites palette!

Just some swatches of random shadows. They’re beautiful!

Wet n Wild Shimmer Palette, Hollywood Boulevard from WalgreensThis highlighter has been getting so much buzz on Instagram because it’s a dupe for the highly coveted Whisper of Gilt highlighter that MAC released last year. While WOG is going on Ebay for insane prices, you can get a pretty good substitute at your local drugstore for $5.99!

I don’t have Whisper of Gilt to compare Hollywood Boulevard to, but a lot of people have also said that it’s a dupe for Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Opal (Sephora, $38). Although they are quite similar (and not that you can tell from this picture, sorry!), Hollywood Boulevard has more of a gold undertone while Opal has more of a peach undertone. Hollywood Boulevard is pretty pigmented and it goes on beautifully, so don’t sleep on it!

Lips, Lips, LipsI tend to go overboard when it comes to lip products, and here’s the evidence. I accumulated two new lip pencils, three new glosses, and two new liquid lipsticks in one month. I actually could’ve done way more damage but I’m (kind-of) on a low-buy. From top to bottom:
MAC Creamstick Liner in Cream O’ Spice
MAC Pro Longwear Lip Pencil in Absolutely It
Anastasia Beverly Hills lipgloss in Vintage
Anastasia Beverly Hills lipgloss in Weekend Barbie
LA Splash Cosmetics Lip Couture Liquid Lipstick in Latte Confession
NYX Intense Butter Gloss in Spice Cake
Dose of Colors Liquid Matte Lipstick in Black Rose (limited edition)

I love it all. Both of the lip pencils from MAC go on better than their regular lip pencil (which is still good and comes in great shades!) and can be worn underneath lipsticks/glosses or by themselves for a matte look. I like that they’re not as drying as the regular lip pencils worn on their own. Cream O’ Spice is more brown and Absolutely It is more mauve. To be honest, I’m most likely going to own every nude lip pencil and lipstick MAC has by the end of the year. The Anastasia Beverly Hills glosses are absolutely amazing, and it’s such a relief after all I went through with the liquid lipsticks. I want every last color. They’re so pigmented and not sticky at all! Same thing with Spice Cake from NYX, which is a fraction of the price of most other popular lip glosses (this week ULTA is doing buy one, get one half off of NYX as well so feel free to stock up).

I bought Latte Confession because I’ve been meaning to try LA Splash Cosmetics and it is apparently a dupe for Limecrime’s Riot velvetine. I really like wearing it over my MAC lip pencil in Burgundy. The staying power is awesome, although the formula is a bit more drying on me than I expected it to be. The final lip product I bought was Black Rose from Dose of Colors, and I haven’t worn it for a long period of time so I can’t really give a strong opinion of it, but I like it so far! I bought it on a whim because I don’t own anything that’s exactly like it and it was limited edition. Whoops.

Eyes
I finally got the highly favored Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara, and to me, it definitely does live up to its height. My eyelashes are long, but they’re not as thick as I would like them to be, and most of the mascaras I’ve used just lengthen. BTS lengthens and thickens them, which is what I’ve been looking for all along. I don’t have a problem with clumping because I separate my eyelashes with an eyelash comb after using mascara anyway. I also picked up the I Get No Kick eye kohl from MAC (from the MAC Is Beauty collection – still in stores I believe) because I usually wear nude eyeliner on my waterline and IGNK is nude with a nice shimmer. It’s beautiful, and the shimmer isn’t too much.

I would say that April was a great month for makeup – I don’t regret a single purchase. I also bought the Christian Louboutin nail polish in Tutulle (thank you, Sephora VIB and VIB Rouge sale!), but I don’t want to post about it until I have pictures of me actually wearing the polish. It’s a gorgeous nude color that I could rock for the rest of my life.

What about you lovelies? Any notable makeup purchases last month? What’s on your list for May?
